Update

I got all busy last week and didn't update too much. I rode the club ride Wednesday night, and lunch rides on Thursday and Friday. Rain Friday night and Saturday all day kept me off the bike and even out of the yard, but I snuck out Sunday aternoon when I took the kids to a friends party.

On Sunday's ride I found a new bike shop. A couple of people had mentioned one was opening over in the Westview shopping center, and I thought to ride over and peek in the windows. It turns out they have Sunday hours and have been open a few weeks. It looks like a good addition to the shop scene here in town. The Bike Fix (I might have the name wrong, there was no sign up yet) had a nice mix of road, mountain, city/comfort, and kids bikes. I saw Kona, Giant, Redline and Bianchi bikes and frames from Surly on the walls. Any shop with fix in the name should have at least a couple and I saw a steamroller frame and a 9-2-5, as well as some neat fixies in the numerous photos in the shop. They mentioned that they will also be carrying Waterford and Heron frames. It warmed my heart to see internal geared hubs, M-Bars, and fenders on stock bikes. They didn't have any 29"er stuff, but at least they knew what was up and could get the Kona, Redline and Surly offerings. The bike scene is looking up in Frederick.

No ride today at lunch, but while I was at the Post Office I ran into a guy with a SS Karate Monkey and we talked bikes a bit.

Lunch Ride 4/19

Once again the weather is too nice not to ride. I visited the airport and Jug Bridge Park, then went through town.

Around Thurmont

Since other fun stuff has been taking up my limited biking time, Fixing Frederick has taken a hit. I finally got a short ride in, just northeast of me in Thurmont. Beautiful sunny Easter morning, just cool enough to need a windbreaker. Very little traffic. If I hadn't needed to get home to work on the patio before company came over for dinner, I would have extended the ride a bit longer. As it is, I'll need to hit town at least once more to complete the streets south of Rt. 550. I added 31 new roads in today's 20 miles, which brings my total to 1262 out of 4162 roads in the county. Complete report here.

Wednesday Night Ride

The Wednesday evening rides have started up for the season. Five of the regulars showed up for a pleasant 20 miles at an easy pace in the warmth of the setting sun. Spring is here.

Fix26 - First one done.

Well, the first Fix26 is in the books. Seven hard riders came out on a chilly spring morning to brave the hills. They all crushed the course with nary a twinge. Todd turned in the best time, followed by Joe and Jason. Fierce exertion was followed by mellow kicking back with a lasagna lunch at Chateau Hjalti. A good time was had by all. Details and more photos coming soon.

SSPBE 2006

Another Single Speed Punk Bike Enduro is past. This one was the best yet for me. I mean, yeah, I still came in last on almost every stage, but I could still walk when it was over. The beer was good, the people were great, the climbs were killer and the technical spots were WAYYYYY above my comfort level, but I rode some things I didn't think a cross bike could traverse in the 'Shed, and walked a few other things, and proved to myself once again why bikes, and the people that ride them, are one of the best things on planet Earth.

Ricky won. Becky Won. I technically avoided a complete sweep of DFL by snagging a couple of trailside punks. A big thanks to Joe and Julie and the others who organized and moved the keg around, and provided enthusiastic support for the whole day! Next year I might even bring a mountain bike.

More Photos and Reports Here, Here, Here,(check the posts around this one too) and Here.
