1935 Transcontinental

H/t to the Touring List.

Cross country in 1935, and it looks like he still rocks the single speed.

Wednesdays

I had a great plan. The Frederick Pedalers have a cool ride on Wednesday nights during the cold months. A nice, reasonably paced night road ride followed by pizza at a local place. On alternate Wednesdays, the Bicycle Escape hosts a MTB night ride at Gambrill State Park. I figured I could do the Pedalers ride one week and the TBE ride the other. I'd have good riding all winter long. Good plan, Right?

Whose idea was it to have kids? One night a week I want to do something and guess when basketball practice is? I would have just fluffed it off on the Mrs. but she has several things going that night of the week between now and Christmas. There seems to be some warping of the space time continuum that gives her stuff a higher priority. So it looks like it will be until January until I can ride, and then only about half as much as I'd planned (yes I'll still be out on my own, but these were more social things).

Anybody got some cheese to go with my whine?

BTW, the Dinotte worked GREAT the one night a couple of weeks ago that I did hit the pedalers' ride. Now I need to get it off road too.

Once again it's...

National Ammo Day.

I think this year I'm going with .45 Colt.

Fall Colds

I got one. Emily has one. And we have conjunctivitis (or as E calls it, conjunkyeyelids) to boot. It's only a matter of time before we inflict one or the other on other family members. I'd planned on trail maintenance on Sunday and a good veterans day ride on Monday, but we spent the time mostly wrapped in blankets and watching TV or surfing the interwebs. That was OK too, it just wasn't riding.

Rides I Missed

A month ago I planned to do both these events, but sometimes real life and responsibilities take precedence. Saturday was supposed to be the Bootleggers Bliss, but my daughter was asked to participate in the All County Cross Country Invitational. It wasn't really a hard choice. She ran hard, and placed middle of the pack, with her sweatshirt draped casually over one shoulder. Go Emily!

Sunday was the Bicycle Escape's 2nd Photo Ride, a casual paced ride with photography as the goal. Again, I was prepped to do it, but my son's basketball tryouts came between. I made the best of it. Sunday afternoon was spent on the back patio with a fire in the fire bowl, puttering around with bikes and drinking a few beers. I got the quickbeam back together, still using canti brakes, as the v-brake levers are out of stock. When they get in I'll switch them over.

I also made a nifty little light bar to go on the rack of my commuter/geared bike. A bit of pvc, paint and a couple of bar end plugs and I'm stylin'.

Let there be....

I finally bit the bullet and bought a high end light. I have been waffling around over all the choices among the LED lights, but ended up going with a Dinotte 600L. I ordered it from Dinotte Monday evening and it arrived Thursday. One of the best points for me was that it comes with two batteries (caveat: Nashbar sells the same light for a discount, but it looks like {from the web page, when it's in stock} they only send one battery.). I charged up one battery last night and used the light while walking the dog. Wow! Lots of light! I'll do some evening rides this weekend and maybe get some photos up.

Just in time for the Frederick Pedalers Lights and Pizza Rides which begin next Wednesday. Woot! Now I have to make one of those nifty front rack/pvc light bars to mount the Cateye and Dinotte on the Fuji.
